# Prop firm rules and copy trading

> What to check in your prop firm's rules before you copy trades, and which CopyFlock settings help you stay inside them.

Before you copy trades across prop firm accounts, check what your firm allows. Rules differ between firms and between evaluation and funded accounts, and they change over time.

This page is general information, not legal or compliance advice. Your firm's current published rules always win.

<Warning>
CopyFlock doesn't read or enforce your firm's rules. Staying within them is your responsibility. CopyFlock isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any prop firm.

## Questions to answer for every firm

1. **Are trade copiers allowed?** Some firms say so explicitly. Others only mention automated trading in general.
2. **Is copying between accounts you own allowed?** This is usually the key question if you hold several accounts.
3. **Is copying someone else's trades allowed?** This is often restricted even where copying your own accounts is fine.
4. **How many accounts can you hold or trade at once?**
5. **Is hedging across accounts allowed?** Holding a long in one account and a short in another is commonly banned. This matters if you use [reverse trades](/settings/orders#reverse-trades).
6. **Do consistency or position-size rules apply per account?** Copying makes accounts trade alike, but each is judged on its own.
7. **Are there rules on automation or news trading?**

## Where to find the answers

Firms publish their rules in their help center and in the terms you agreed to when you bought the account. Search for **copy trading**, **trade copier**, **multiple accounts**, **hedging**, **automated trading** and **prohibited practices**.

If something is unclear, ask the firm's support in writing, by email or ticket, and keep the reply.

Re-read the rules when you move from an evaluation to a funded account, when you buy accounts on a new plan, and every few months anyway.

## CopyFlock settings that help

| Rule area | CopyFlock setting | How to use it |
| - | - | - |
| Hedging across accounts | [Reverse trades](/settings/orders#reverse-trades) | Leave it off for prop firm accounts unless opposite positions are clearly allowed. |
| Maximum position size | [Max contracts](/settings/position-size#minimum-and-maximum-contracts) | Set each follower's maximum to its account limit. |
| Drawdown and loss limits | [Account protection](/settings/account-protection) | Set a lower limit with a buffer above the drawdown level. |
| Profit targets | [Account protection](/settings/account-protection) | Set an upper limit to stop an evaluation once it passes. |
| News trading restrictions | [Pause](/dashboard/managing-accounts#pause-and-resume-copying), [symbol filter](/settings/symbol-filter) | Pause followers before restricted events. |
| Trades without a stop | [Skip trades without a stop loss](/settings/orders#skip-trades-without-a-stop-loss-or-take-profit) | Only copy entries that have a stop. |
| Copying other people | Account ownership | Only connect accounts that are yours. CopyFlock is built for copying your own trades. |

CopyFlock has no daily loss limit or trading hours setting. Use account protection and pausing instead.

## A safe default setup

* Only copy between accounts that are yours.
* Keep reverse trades off for prop firm accounts.
* Set **Max contracts** on every follower to its account's limit.
* Set account protection a little above each drawdown level, and raise it as trailing drawdowns move.
* Keep **Copy stop loss** on so every follower carries a stop.
* Re-read your firm's rules whenever your account type changes.
