Before you start
- Read Apex’s current rules on trade copiers, how many accounts you can hold and trading across accounts. Rules change, and they always come first. See Prop firm rules.
- List your accounts with their size and platform. Apex accounts on Rithmic use the Apex system. Apex accounts on Tradovate sign in through Tradovate.
- Decide which account leads. Pick the one you want to trade by hand. Many traders lead from their furthest-along account.
- Note each account’s drawdown level and contract limit. You’ll use them for limits and protection.
Step 1: Connect your accounts
Start your free trial. It covers 2 accounts, enough to test with a lead and one follower before you add the rest.- Apex on Rithmic: click Add account, choose Rithmic, pick the Apex system and enter the Rithmic username and password Apex sent you. See Connect a Rithmic account.
- Apex on Tradovate: click Add account, choose Tradovate and sign in on Tradovate’s page. See Connect a Tradovate account.
Step 2: Choose a size for each follower
Want some followers on micros? Add a symbol mapping such as NQ → MNQ.
See Position size for every option.
Step 3: Add limits and protection
On each follower:- Max contracts: the account’s contract limit, so a large lead trade never oversizes it.
- Account protection: choose Watch equity and set Stop at or below a little above the drawdown level. Optionally, set Stop at or above to the profit target. See Account protection.
- Copy stop loss and Copy take profit: keep them on so every follower carries your bracket.
- Skip trades without a stop loss: turn it on if you sometimes forget a stop on the lead.
Step 4: Run a test trade
During market hours, place 1 micro contract on the lead and close it a minute later. Then check:- The logs show an open and a close for every follower.
- Each follower’s size is what you expected.
- Stops and targets appear on followers.
- Every follower is flat again afterwards.
Troubleshooting the first week
A follower didn't copy a trade
A follower didn't copy a trade
It may be paused, by you or by account protection. The symbol may be excluded by its symbol filter, or the trade may have had no stop loss with Skip trades without a stop loss on. The size may also have rounded to less than half a contract. See Troubleshooting.
A follower traded the wrong size
A follower traded the wrong size
Check the sizing method, any symbol mapping and the min and max contracts. Rounding to whole contracts explains most small differences, and Equity ratio sizes change as balances move.
A follower is out of step with the lead
A follower is out of step with the lead
This usually happens after a change made by hand on the follower. Use Close all positions on the follower to flatten it. It joins in again with the lead’s next trade.
